A "Just the Essentials" Adventure

This adventure takes place in Rocky Mountain National Park when everyone is gone and the park sleeps in its winter blanket of snow. Like our fall Wildlife & Photoshop workshop, this workshop focuses on how to bring out the best in your photographs by applying the techniques Ansel Adams used in making his classic black and white images.

According to Adams, “The negative is the equivalent of the composer’s score, and the print the performance.”

The images we make in the field with our cameras are the score. During this workshop, you will learn how to take that score and produce the performance.

The true artistry of Adam’s prints was the result of his work in darkroom. In order to produce similar works of art, we too, must take our photographs into the darkroom ─ the Digital Darkroom.

Using Photoshop, participants will learn the digital equivalent of the techniques used by Ansel Adams during this hands-on, all-day workshop.

Itinerary

Day 1 (Friday)  -  Arrive in Estes Park, Colorado, no later than 5 PM, at which time we will gather for dinner. Afterwards, you’ll receive instruction and a briefing on what to expect the next day.

Days 2 (Saturday)  -  Sunrise will find you in Rocky Mountain National Park, immersed in quietness, while images of the Park's winter beauty fill your viewfinder. Sometime around mid-morning, you will head into town where you will have the opportunity to feast on a breakfast of chicken fried steak, eggs, and grits, along with a generous helping of hot biscuits, gravy, and coffee at the Bighorn Restaurant, an eating establishment known for its good vittles  Afterwards, you will return to the hotel and begin your classroom session.

In the Classroom . . .

First on the agenda will be the task of downloading your images from the morning shoot and selecting the best for transformation in Photoshop.

Afterwards, your instructor will spend the afternoon demonstrating the various Photoshop techniques he incorporates in transforming his images. You will follow along, using Photoshop and the same techniques, on your laptop.

The techniques demonstrated by your instructor will be projected, real-time, onto a large projection screen via digital projector in order that everyone may easily see what he is doing, as he demonstrates and explains each step, stopping to answer questions as the work progresses.

Your classroom session, and the workshop, will end at  5 PM,

In order to receive the most from your workshop, it is

recommended that you bring a digital camera

and a laptop computer with Photoshop installed.
