A "Just the Essentials" Adventure

White-tailed Ptarmigan, cloaked in all-white winter plumage and sporting “snowshoe” fitted feet are our subjects for this unique high country, photo adventure.

Sporting feathered toes that aid in walking on soft snow, feathered eyelids and nostrils for protection against extreme cold, and seasonal changes to plumage coloration, no other bird is so well adapted for life on the barren alpine tundra. In winter, ptarmigan are the only birds to don a cloak of white.

During the workshop, you will learn how to make award-winning images of wildlife along with special techniques that will give you the edge in the field of wildlife photography.

We will do everything in our power to make this a once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

Itinerary

Day 1 (Friday)  -  Arrive in Idaho Springs, Colorado, no later than 5 PM, at which time we will gather for dinner. Afterwards, you’ll receive a briefing on what to expect the next dayand instruction on photo techniques.

Days 2 (Saturday) -  Early morning will find you on the mountain, trekking through the snow on snowshoes in search of the Master of Disguise. However, your search will not be alone. Maintaining radio contact via walkie-talkies, we will spilt-up into two separate groups. This will allow us to cover twice as much ground with half the effort; and, locate our subjects much quicker. Once ptarmigan have been located, the fun begins. Once the shooting comes to an end, everyone will return to town in preparation for departing for their homes across the country, but not before enjoying one last meal together.
