A "Just the Essentials" Adventure
It’s February and the early morning air is crisp high in the Colorado Rockies. An overnight snowfall has transformed the forests and mountains into a magical winter wonderland. The morning sun, peaking over the foothills to the east, scatters a layer of shimmering diamonds onto the surrounding meadow. The only sound is a nearby stream gurgling beneath a layer of frozen ice. This is Rocky Mountain National Park arrayed in its winter splendor, where we will spend three full days photographing its many secrets macro close-ups, landscapes, and wildlife, including mule deer and elk. Small group size allows in-depth instruction along with a high degree of
personalized attention for beginners and professionals alike. You will learn how
to make award winning winter landscapes, close-ups, and wildlife portraits. A
special program is planned for each day. We will do everything in my power to
make this workshop a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Experience
Rocky Mountain National Park in its Winter
Splendor
Itinerary Day
1 (Sunday) - Arrive in Estes
Park, Colorado, no later than 5 PM, at which time we will gather for dinner.
Following dinner, participants will receive instruction on photo techniques and
a briefing on the next day’s shooting lineup. Days
2,3,4 (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday) -
These days will be filled with exploring and
photographing the wonders of Rocky
Mountain National Park. Streams, frozen in time, combined with snow-covered
mountains provide breathtaking landscapes for the most discriminating nature
photographer, to say nothing of producing magnificent backdrops for the native
mule deer and wapiti. Wapiti is the Shawnee word for the America elk, meaning
“white deer.” Coyotes are common; and, with a little luck, we may have the
opportunity to photograph this wild cousin of the dog. Day 4
(Thursday) - There’s no better way to end
a Rocky Mountain adventure than by returning to where it all began. In the Park,
you will have one last opportunity to capture
those images missed earlier in the week, thank your subjects for the many photo
opportunities they provided, and bid them farewell as you head back into town
for a mid-morning breakfast. Afterwards, it’s back to that place
called reality, as you and the other participants begin the journey to your
homes across the country.
This itinerary is meant as a guide. Weather conditions will dictate when, and if, we visit certain locations.
