Join us in the Valley of the Eagles near Haines, Alaska, where thousands of bald eagles gather to feed upon a late run of chum salmon in what is know as the world’s largest gathering of eagles.
Since time immemorial, bald eagles have been drawn to this area. Each winter they gather along the open waters of the Chilkat River to feed upon spawned-out salmon carcasses. Up to 3,500 or more bald eagles have been counted during peak congregation times in mid-November.
The awesome sight of cottonwood trees filled to capacity with eagles as hundreds more stand sentinel along river flats waiting to tear apart fish carcasses with their powerful beaks and talons is a spectacle never to be forgotten.
Timed to coincide with the height of the eagle congregation, this workshop practically guarantees photographers unlimited opportunities to capture breathtaking images of our nation’s symbol of freedom.
Small group size allows in-depth instruction along with a high degree of personalized attention for beginners and professionals alike. You’ll learn how to make award winning wildlife images. A special program is planned for you each and every day.

Images of bald eagles - close-ups, environmental portraits, and flights shots to name just a few. For years I’ve advised others that if they want to photograph a subject that sells, there are three species worth considering: eagles, eagles and eagles. This week will be your opportunity to do just that. Since maximum light and shooting conditions exists between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., there will be ample opportunity for everyone to explore the many local attractions that 60Haines has to offer. Weather permitting, you will
spend an entire day exploring the landscape between Haines and British Columbia. Day 9 (Monday) - Today, you will begin your journey back to reality as you board the ferry for Juneau but not before your
spending another full day photographing America’s Spirit of Freedom - the Bald
Eagle. Day 10 (Tuesday) - All good things must come to an end including this once-in-a-lifetime Alaskan adventure. Following an early breakfast, you will be delivered to the airport, where you will begin the first leg of your journey back to that place called
reality.
