A "Just the Essentials" Adventure

This adventure takes place in Rocky Mountain National Park during early summer when things are "a buzzin'."

Marmots are busy, if you can call it that, following their long winter's nap. It's the time of year when you'll spot them on the alpine tundra, either filling their stomachs, or sprawled out on boulders, sleeping in the summer sun.

Pika, a small chinchilla-looking critter, related to rabbits and hares, are busy in the high country, too. In fact, there's hardly a time when they're not busy.

Cow elk and moose can be observed nursing their offspring born in late May and early June. Mule deer, too, are busy tending their newborn. In fact, some may even give birth during your visit.

Chipmunks -- represented by the Uinta, least, and Colorado -- along with a couple of ground squirrels -- golden-mantled and Wyoming -- are everywhere. Abert's squirrels roam the ponderosa woodlands, while red squirrels bark at trespassers from their perches high in the fir and spruce trees. Coyotes and bighorn sheep are frequent visitors in Horseshoe Park.

These are just a few of the surprises that await participants on this photo adventure.

During the workshop, you will learn how to make award-winning images of wildlife along with special techniques that will give you the edge in the field of wildlife photography. A special program is planned for each day. We will do everything in our power to make this a once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

Itinerary

Day 1 (Sunday)  -  Arrive in Estes Park, Colorado, no later than 5 PM, at which time we will gather for dinner. Following dinner, participants will receive instruction on photo techniques and a briefing on the next day’s shooting lineup.

Days 2,3,4 (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday)  - These days will find you exploring and photographing the many inhabitants and wonders of Rocky Mountain National Park. Our quest for adventure will take you into Horseshoe and Moraine Parks, where frequent visitors include elk, mule deer, bighorn sheep, coyotes, along with a variety of chipmunks a squirrels. You'll travel to the "top of the world," where you will have the opportunity photograph those species that call the windswept, alpine tundra their home; and, you will explore the Kawuneeche Valley, home to the world's largest member of the deer family - the stately moose.

Day 4 (Thursday)  -  There’s no better way to end a Rocky Mountain adventure than by returning to where it all began. In the Park, you will have one last opportunity to capture those images missed earlier in the week, thank your subjects for the many photo opportunities they provided, and bid them farewell as you head back into town for a mid-morning breakfast. Afterwards, it’s back to that place called reality, as you and the other participants begin the journey back to your homes across the country.

This itinerary is meant as a guide.

Weather conditions will dictate when, and if, we visit certain locations.
