Weldon Lee travels throughout the world writing about wildlife and
capturing the essence of their personalities on film. He has a special way of
communicating with animals and his images depict that relationship. A University
of Northern Iowa photography instructor places Weldon as "One of the
top five wildlife photographers in America." Weldon's work has appeared in
numerous publications including National Wildlife, Petersen's PHOTOgraphic, National
Parks Magazine, Bird Watcher's Digest, Mature Outlook, and Backpacker.
As Assistant Editor of Nature Photographer magazine, his images and
articles appear in each and every issue of that publication. Weldon has two
books to his credit, Watchable Birds of the Rocky Mountains and A
Guide to Photographing Rocky Mountain Wildlife. His dramatic images have
been exhibited in the Denver Museum of Natural History and The Carnegie Museum
of Natural History in Pittsburgh. In January, 1995, Weldon was elected Chair of
the Education Committee of the North American Nature Photography Association and
served three years in that capacity. He is also a member of the Rocky Mountain
Outdoor Writers and Photographers and in 2007 received that organization's
Selected Works Award for Excellence in Photography.. "Wildlife photography," explains
Weldon, "is more
than capturing an image. It is the opportunity to
preserve on film the drama of a fleeting moment in the life of one of my wild
brothers and sisters. When I am fortunate enough to capture one of those
moments, I begin to realize that I'm touching something greater than life
itself."
