Galapagos Wildlife
A guided photo safari into the magical Galapagos archipelago.
"Lolly and I went on a trip to the Galapagos Islands, where Darwin began to consider origin of species, and home to animals found nowhere else.  The basic idea was to fly to Quito, Ecuador, stay there for a couple of days, then fly to the Galapagos, 600 miles off the coast.  We then boarded a boat, the Amigo I, for an 8 day tour of the islands.  Our particular tour group concentrated on wildlife photography under the guidance of a well known wildlife photographer, Weldon Lee. The group and the boat crew were exceptionally congenial, which made the tour much more fun.
"Each day we would visit one or more islands.  Our main guide was a Belgian naturalist who was the best guide I have ever been with.  The islands are pristine. The animals are incredibly tame.  You can actually step on them if you aren't careful.  Even the birds.  This makes for some fantastic wildlife close-ups.  Sometimes during most days we snorkeled sometimes from the beach and sometimes off a small boat called a panga that ferried us from the ship to shore.  We swam with all sorts of tropical fish, sea lions, penguins and sharks.  I did not have an underwater camera, so even though this was a major high point, it is not in the slides.
"All the meals were taken on the ship.  Since the islands are very far apart, at night the crew would move to another island.  Each island has its own unique flora and fauna.
"Weldon took good care of us.  He is a great guy even though he came from Texas.  He has a crew of exceptionally good people in Quito for housing and transportation.  He even got me to start thinking about something beyond pointing and shooting.
"This was one of our best trips ever.  Lolly was looking for a way to return to the islands after about the 4th day there."
