Day 1 (Saturday): Lesedi Cultural Village
Upon arrival in Johannesburg, you will be met at the airport by our South African representative and whisked away to the Lesedi Cultural Lodge, a World Heritage Site, where you will dine and spend the night. Nestled in the pristine bushveld, where families from the Zulu, Xhosa, and Pedi live in their traditional homesteads, Lesedi is a true African experience that MUST be experienced; it cannot be described.
Day 2 (Sunday): Johannesburg - Balule Nature Reserve
Depart Johannesburg for Hoedspruit via South African Airways. Upon arrival, you will be transported to nearby Mohlabetsi Safari Lodge, situated in the heart of the vast Balule Nature Reserve, which will be your home for the next six days. After unpacking, you will attend an orientation meeting, followed by lunch and time for relaxing; but don’t put that camera away. There will be plenty of photo opportunities around the lodge before dinner. It is not uncommon for warthogs, zebra, and even wildebeest to venture into camp.
Days 3-7 (Monday-Friday): Balule Nature Reserve
Mornings will find you exploring the mixed-woodlands, not only for the Big Five, but the 30-plus species of mammals that are common to the area. You can expect a variety of colorful and exotic birds to grace your viewfinder. Hippopotamus and crocodile often provide willing subjects among the lily pads filing the water way that cuts through the woodland area. Sunsets will typically find you at one of several waterholes, where you will experience elephants, lions, Cape buffalo, leopards, and a variety of other species as they come to quench their thirst.
Day 8 (Saturday): Balule Nature Reserve - Johannesburg
All good things must come to an end. It’s time to return home and have all those rolls of film processed and pixels edited. Following an early breakfast, you’ll be transported to Hoedspruit where you’ll board South African Airways for the first leg of your journey back home.
